MaineGeneral Medical Center Raises Final Steel Beam on New Replacement Hospital
Cheers rose as the final steel beam bearing the signatures of hundreds of MaineGeneral Medical Center employees, patients, donors and construction workers swung into place during the “topping-out” ceremony, marking the achievement of final building height for the 640,000 s.f. replacement hospital. Hailed as “the largest healthcare construction project in the state’s history,” construction is approximately 40% complete and tracking 6 months ahead of schedule. MGMC’s President and CEO Chuck Hays credits the integrated project delivery (IPD) method and the team’s “progressive thinkers” – a collaborative design and construction team comprised of hospital staff, architects and contractors – with making this achievement possible.
