SMRT’s roots go back to 1884, when John Calvin Stevens established his architectural design firm in Portland, Maine. The best documented figure in Maine architectural history, John Calvin Stevens was nationally recognized for his “shingle style” designs. Stevens could not have imagined back then the achievements that were to come. Over the next 125 years, his one-man firm would evolve to become a multi-disciplinary industry leader, with a portfolio that encompasses a wide range of projects, from planning studies to multi-facility jobs. Though the art and science of architecture has advanced a great deal since 1884, SMRT’s commitment to understand and build on every client’s vision has remained constant.
