Hopkins School Case Study
Parr Field, Hopkins School’s first multi-sport synthetic turf field, has transformed the School’s athletic facilities, allowing increased play for football, soccer, lacrosse and field hockey. The facility improves the School’s standing among its competitive peers and with prospective student athletes. Site challenges were significant. Permanent concrete low-maintenance spectators were designed into the steeply sloped site, affording optimal viewing angles to the field, while avoiding disturbance of sensitive wetlands habitat on the property. Soil conditions on site were addressed with numerous geotechnical improvements to provide a safe and popular multi-purposed athletic venue for the School. Successful permitting efforts with both abutters and local regulatory agencies allowed the fast-track project to remain on schedule.
With the success of this project, the School’s athletic program has grown to now require additional venue improvements. SMRT is currently assisting the School with the construction of a new 400M competition running track and varsity girls’ softball field, both anticipated to open for the upcoming season.
