Two Bridges Regional Jail Case Study
Engaging local and county authorities and the state legislature in an inclusive planning process, SMRT designed Two Bridges—the first regional jail north of Virginia. The 120-bed facility features expansion capability for up to 170 inmates. SMRT’s design supports direct supervision and behavior management. Medium and minimum custody populations are located near program areas. Central control allows unescorted inmate movement in certain zones while specialized units are operated under remote surveillance. The overall design maximizes the availability of inmate management tools while minimizing staff requirements.
