Westover Air Reserve Base, Armed Forces Reserve Case Study

This four-building military complex replaces multiple armories for the Massachusetts Army National Guard, Marine Corps and Army Reserve units, reducing maintenance and operations costs while creating a venue for training synergies among the military services. SMRT, teamed with Consigli Construction, won the project in a design-build competition. The complex serves over 1,000 reserve members and includes an Armed Forces Reserve Center, organizational maintenance Shop (OMS) and an unheated storage facility (UHS). The building’s design responds to the base’s Neo-Georgian 1940’s-era architecture and achieved a Gold SPiRiT rating.
