Mercy Hospital Fore River Campus Consolidation
The Mercy Fore River project was driven by a need to consolidate all hospital departments onto one campus. To accomplish this, SMRT provided full design and engineering services to build an addition to the existing hospital, a new Ambulatory Surgery Center, and renovations to a free-standing Medical Office Building (MOB).
The need for the Ambulatory Surgery Center was in response to the growing trend of providing care outside the hospital setting, at a lower cost, and for a better patient experience. The new 34,987-square-foot, two-story freestanding center on the Fore River Campus includes outpatient clinics on the first floor and a four OR outpatient surgery suite on the second floor.
The 65,615-square-foot addition includes a new emergency department with space dedicated to patients with behavioral health needs and 32 single-occupant patient rooms. The mechanical systems were designed with the ability to quickly convert some of the Emergency Department and inpatient rooms to negative pressure isolation rooms in the event of a pandemic.
