Phillips Exeter Academy Athletic Field Improvements

Due to a significant increase in participation in interscholastic and club athletic programs, Phillips Exeter Academy has completed numerous athletic field improvements on campus, based on the athletic facility master plan completed in 2007. As trusted advisors to the academy for over 15 years, SMRT has led the planning, design, and engineering of all the outdoor athletics facilities on the Phillips Exeter campus.

Projects have included the academy’s first synthetic turf field, located inside historic Phelps Stadium, the development of their second synthetic turf field at Hatch Field, the construction of 12 tennis courts, a viewing area and shelter, the development of varsity baseball field improvements above the school’s installed geothermal well field, a new satellite trainer’s facility, and numerous other natural grass athletic field improvements. SMRT assisted the academy in the long-range planning of remaining campus athletic improvements.

SMRT’s structural engineering analysis and recommendations to improve the spectator seating experience at Phelps Stadium are key examples of SMRT’s full-service capabilities.
