St. George’s School Case Study
Plagued with poorly draining athletic fields and unsafe playing conditions, seven years ago SMRT assisted the School in developing a new athletic vision for the scenic campus, overlooking Rhode Island Sound. The vision included construction of new natural grass and multiple synthetic turf fields, new tennis facilities, parking and other athletic venue support facilities.
Beginning in 2017, the School embarked on implementing Phase One, including the construction of two regulation synthetic turf fields to support football, soccer and lacrosse program. To address the existing safety of students and faculties with foul balls, the natural grass varsity baseball field was relocated to the north end of campus with an improved orientation. All work was completed in one summer, allowing uninterrupted student play on the fields. Phase Two work, including reconstruction of the tennis facilities, parking area improvements, and campus pedestrian walk upgrades are currently being designed for future implementation.
The School now has state of the art athletic fields, right in the heart of campus. The central locations allows recreational use of the field areas when formal athletic programs are not scheduled.
