Western Maine Health Medical Office Building

Based on the patient-centered collaborative care model, this 25,500 square-foot medical office building provides a platform for team-based, continuous and integrated care delivery.

The floor plan is divided into four identical clinical hubs organized around a central waiting area.

SMRT collaborated with leadership and clinical staff to design a hybrid clinical hub model that allows providers to work alongside clinical staff in a collaborative zone while also having private provider offices close by in the hub.

Access to daylight is maximized throughout the facility with skylights, clerestory windows and borrowed lites bringing daylight well into interior spaces, lowering energy consumption, creating a sense of openness, and increasing staff satisfaction. This high-performing building was the first in Maine to earn an incentive rebate from Efficiency Maine’s Advanced Building Program thanks to its 98% efficient heating system and extensive use of daylighting.

The interior design reinforces the practice’s relationship with the community with references to its sledding and snowshoe history.
