WEX Global Headquarters Case Study

WEX’s global headquarters is home to 400 employees on Portland’s waterfront. The color and materials palette and integration of artwork and graphics were sensitively coordinated to find balance between inviting and welcoming, and contemporary and tech focused. Incorporating the principles of the WELL Building Standard – a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring building features that impact human health and wellbeing – SMRT designed a tech-enabled work environment focused on keeping employees healthy, happy, and productive. Flooded with natural light, the workplace offers breakout spaces, large flex spaces for gathering, a variety of meeting spaces, and a large rooftop deck to take in views of Casco Bay. A large salt-water fish tank in the central gathering space offers a connection with nature and an opportunity for respite. The contemporary workspace empowers employees with flexibility, whether it’s space to connect and collaborate, or quiet space to focus and reflect.
