Avesta Housing Cumberland Ave. Redevelopment Concept
The pressing need for affordable housing in Portland drove this mixed-use project for Avesta Housing – Northern New England’s largest non-profit affordable housing provider. SMRT’s ongoing programming and planning for this redevelopment project will significantly contribute to the revitalization of Portland’s Bayside neighborhood while also addressing the housing shortage in the community.
The project is on the site of Avesta’s existing building across seven lots on Cumberland Avenue and Elm Street. The project will culminate in a high-performing building with over 200 residential units, parking, and retail/mixed-use space. The new facility will serve as the company’s headquarters and will include leasable office space, a public food market, a restaurant, and retail spaces.
