SMRT Architects & Engineers expands ownership group with six new shareholders and two principal elevations
SMRT Architects & Engineers (SMRT) today announced that six employees have joined the firm’s shareholder group, and two associate principals have been elevated to principal. The additions broaden the firm’s ownership as SMRT continues to grow across the Northeast, including through its September acquisition of Petersen Engineering, Inc.
Lodrys Gomez, Timothy Mahoney, Chris McAllister, Mark Patterson, and Anna Smith join the shareholder group as associate principals. Nick Hadiaris joins as a principal. Lance Lowell and Mark Rogers, both previously associate principals, have been elevated to principal.
“Becoming a shareholder recognizes what each of these individuals has already contributed to SMRT, and it is a commitment to the firm’s future,” said Brad Hodges, president and CEO of SMRT Architects & Engineers. “Our shareholders share responsibility for the long-term health of the firm. Bringing new perspectives into that stewardship is how a firm founded in 1884 keeps growing and creating opportunity for the people who come next.”
The new associate principals bring expertise across architecture, interiors, project management, and marketing. Gomez, a senior architectural designer, leads the integration of architecture and interiors for the firm and brings 3D visualization into projects from conceptual design through completion. Mahoney, a senior architect and an architectural discipline leader, has more than 20 years of experience with a focus on education projects and leads technical development and mentoring for SMRT’s architectural staff. McAllister leads project management for the firm’s Advanced Manufacturing and Life Sciences & Nutrition practices, with experience across aerospace, defense, radiopharmaceutical, and diagnostic environments. Patterson, an architect based in Schenectady, SMRT New York office, brings more than a decade of healthcare design and project management experience, from imaging equipment upgrades to new facilities across care acuities. Smith, director of marketing, has more than 15 years of experience in communications and campaign strategy and works with principals and sector leaders to align marketing with the firm’s business objectives.
Hadiaris, director of the firm’s government and civic practice, joins the shareholder group as a principal. He brings more than 20 years of experience designing facilities for municipalities, state agencies, military installations, and federal campuses, with a focus on resilient infrastructure and energy security. Lowell, an architect and technical leader, focuses on correctional projects for county, state, and federal clients and serves as the firm-wide BIM manager. Rogers, an architect and architectural discipline leader, has more than 15 years of experience on higher education, government, and commercial projects across New England and leads project management for the firm’s education practice.
With these additions, SMRT’s ownership group spans architecture, engineering, design, and marketing, and extends across the firm’s education, healthcare, government and civic, advanced manufacturing, and life sciences practices. Broadening ownership supports SMRT’s commitment to developing the leaders who will guide the firm forward.
