MaineGeneral Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care Expansion

MaineGeneral Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care Expansion

To meet a dramatic rise in patient volume, MaineGeneral Health reengaged SMRT to expand and renew the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care. The $36 million project adds more than 26,000 square feet and reimagines 22,000 square feet of existing space, creating a welcoming, flexible environment designed for the next generation of cancer treatment.

The expansion enhances every aspect of the patient journey, from private, HIPAA-compliant check-in areas to pods that centralize multidisciplinary care. Sunlit infusion bays, expanded waiting spaces, and the integration of the Medical Oncology Home/Survivor Clinic offer comfort and connection. Restored education and research spaces underscore the center’s whole-patient approach in advancing cancer care.

Balancing compassion with efficiency, the project reinforces MaineGeneral’s reputation as a national model of cancer care, delivering innovative treatment, supportive resources, and hope to patients and families throughout Maine.
