St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center Regis A. Lepage Surgical Pavilion

The surgical pavilion comprises six operating rooms (OR), two minor procedure rooms, a post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), and preparation and recovery rooms, needed to support a new OR suite and related spaces. SMRT’s master planning process identified upgrades as a capital improvement priority. Funding approval carried one caveat: to complete the project in less than two years. To meet that directive, SMRT designed and delivered the phased renovations on schedule using a modified Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) method.

Roughly 24,400 square feet of the existing space was renovated. The new 44,734-square-foot addition consists of three levels, with an interstitial space above the OR. The team helped the hospital earn a first-in-state distinction for achieving Advanced Building Design standards for energy efficiency by maximizing the use of environmentally responsible materials. Drawing inspiration from the community’s textile manufacturing history, the project also received the Brick in Architecture Silver Award for the creative use of brick.
