Starplus Electric Vehicle Battery Production Plant
To meet the demand of the rapidly growing North American electric vehicle (EV) market, Stellantis and Samsung SDI have embarked on a joint venture to manufacture lithium-ion batteries in the United States. The Kokomo, Indiana gigafactory marks the first for Stellantis and one of several for Samsung SDI. Spanning approximately 2,800,000 square feet, this facility is targeting an initial annual production capacity of 26 gigawatt-hours employing Samsung SDI’s PRiMX battery technology with the potential to increase up to 33 gigawatt-hours.
SMRT provided cleanroom/dryroom envelope design and engineering for the Stellantis, Samsung SDI gigafactory in collaboration with our longtime partners at Hodess Cleanroom Construction.
“This significant venture with Stellantis and Samsung SDI is squarely in line with our 5E focus on the energy transition and building an economy of the future. Large-scale investments like this are a testament to Indiana’s business-friendly climate, its strong workforce, a growing population, and our continued investment in quality of life. The economic growth and momentum in our state this year is unprecedented.”
