The Bangor Region YMCA has been a cornerstone of youth development and community services for over 150 years and is embarking on an ambitious journey to expand and enhance its offerings. This new chapter will see the creation of a state-of-the-art, versatile facility designed to meet the growing needs of the community and strengthen its ties with the city.

In partnership with SMRT, the YMCA is developing a three-story building strategically located along the bustling main urban corridor of Bangor, just two blocks from its current home in an aging 18th-century mansion. The new facility’s design draws inspiration from the timeless vertical rhythms of historic brick structures in downtown Bangor, seamlessly blending contemporary, high-performance elements with a nod to the area’s rich history.

Inside, visitors will be greeted by a welcoming fireplace that serves as the heart of the Bangor Region YMCA. From there, members will easily navigate to their favorite spots for relaxation, fitness, and wellness. The welcome center features a community meeting room and café, fostering connections among community members. Featured amenities for the facility include an eight-lane competition pool, a six-lane family pool, a basketball gymnasium with an elevated running track, additional fitness studios, a fitness space, a fitness training room, and an integrated health services space. Additionally, the facility will house a new teen center and an Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) serving infants through Pre-K.

Addressing critical needs for at-risk teens and families facing food insecurity, the facility includes a community kitchen, food pantry, and counseling support. Dedicated entrances allow individual access to the new Teen Center and ECEC. In addition to these resources, the facility will offer after-school programs, including a designated STEAM Center (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) and spaces for recreational activities. It also provides a modern workplace for staff that fosters a dynamic workplace culture, incorporating shared workspaces, private offices, and a large break room.
