Eastern Maine Medical Center Lafayette Family Cancer Center

SMRT designed a comprehensive healing environment for Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) at the Lafayette Family Cancer Center to address the physical and emotional needs of patients and their families.

The team incorporated evidence-based design principles in this outpatient facility that features abundant natural light and scenic views. Unexpected colors, shapes, and patterns, also known as “erratics,” were integrated throughout the space to provide “positive distractions” meant to reduce the stress patients may experience from living with cancer and ongoing treatments.

The Lafayette Family Cancer Center earned the “Best in Healthcare Design Award” from the International Interior Design Association, New England Chapter.
