St. George's School Athletic Field Improvements
Overcome with poorly draining athletic fields and unsafe playing conditions, St. George’s School relied on SMRT to develop a new athletic vision for the scenic campus that overlooks Rhode Island Sound. The vision included the construction of new natural grass and synthetic turf fields, tennis facilities, parking, and other athletic venue support facilities.
Implemented in phases, the first was the construction of two regulation synthetic turf fields to support football, soccer, and lacrosse programs. To address safety issues stemming from foul balls, the natural grass varsity baseball field was relocated to the north end of campus with an improved orientation. The work was completed in one summer to allow uninterrupted student play on the fields.
The second phase included the reconstruction of the tennis facilities, improvements to the parking area, and upgrades to the campus pedestrian walk, designed for future implementation.
The state-of-the-art athletic fields in the heart of campus allow recreational use of the field areas when formal athletic programs are not scheduled.
