GE Healthcare Digital X-Ray Detector Manufacturing Facility

GE Healthcare Digital X-Ray Detector Manufacturing Facility

Using an integrated engineering and design process, this 230,000-square-foot digital x-ray manufacturing facility was the first clean manufacturing plant of its kind to be LEED Gold certified.

Built in 18 months, the facility is a model of green design, accommodating cutting-edge clean manufacturing processes, support utilities, and resource-conscious environmental and control systems in a healthy workspace.

SMRT is working with GE Healthcare on tool planning and hook-up for the next generation of manufacturing equipment and significant cleanroom renovations to accommodate new process lines.

Our team collaborated to identify and implement further energy-efficient measures to improve building performance. We identified several opportunities for energy reduction, coordinating with regional incentive programs to deliver efficient solutions that provide a return on investment in less than five years.
This facility was the first LEED Gold-certified facility for a complete semiconductor manufacturing facility.
โ€œAn exceptional engineering accomplishment! This project could not have been completed as it was โ€” meeting stringent technical, schedule, and budget requirements โ€” without great skill, conviction, teamwork, hard work, and leadership.โ€

The project utilized fully redundant high-voltage substations, life safety exhaust, and heating and cooling systems.
The building is projected to have a 27.9% savings over a building built to code by SAIC.
Throughout the project, we focused on incorporating passive and active sustainable design solutions such as this solar array.
SMRT was the prime designer responsible for site selection, program verification, tool planning, and the establishment of process loads. We also provided the complete design of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for the initial buildout. Subsequently, we provided full services for the integration of several new programs and toolsets.
The project was fast-tracked and was fully occupied within 18 months.
