Northern Maine Medical Center Forest Hill Nursing Home

SMRT partnered with Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC) to design and engineer a new 46,000-square-foot facility for the Forest Hill Nursing Home. Replacing a nearly 50-year-old building, the new structure is located on an adjacent greenfield site in Fort Kent, Maine. The mission of the facility is to provide compassionate long-term care, rehabilitation, and skilled nursing to residents requiring assistance with daily living.

We worked closely with the NMMC team to understand their vision and goals, which centered on creating a modern, home-like environment that also maximizes staff efficiency.

The design of the new facility features a strategic pod layout, which aims to increase staff efficiency and provide an enhanced patient experience. The building includes 45 private patient rooms, each with a private bathroom, as well as a state-of-the-art patient transfer system. Beyond clinical care, the space offers a range of amenities designed to improve residents’ quality of life, including a resident entertainment center, a spa, and a secured interior courtyard for outdoor enjoyment.

This project represents a significant investment in the health and wellness of the northern Maine community. The completed facility provides a welcoming, modern, and efficient space for residents and staff alike.
