USACE Ft. Buchanan Directorate of Public Works
Working with limited bridging documents and a tight timeframe, the SMRT team designed and engineered three major buildings at this replacement complex for the Directorate of Public Works. The design-build project included an administration building, shops, a warehouse facility, and an entomology building, all of which are Department of Defense Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) compliant. Multiple sustainability initiatives informed the design, including:
- A tight building envelope
- High-efficiency interior and exterior LED lighting
- A 250-kilowatt photovoltaic array to harvest abundant sunlight
- Underground rainwater storage for non-potable usage
- LEED Gold certification and net zero energy
